Outstanding Performance at the Legendary 24-Hour Race at Nuerburgring in 2019
Press Release: 2 July, 2019
Wayne, PA (USA)—It was another year of “firsts” for the CARE FOR CLIMATE® Racing Team at the 24-hour Endurance Race at the legendary Nuerburging racetrack this year.
The CARE FOR CLIMATE® Racing Team—Axel Duffner, Tom von Löwis, Daniel Schellhaas, Smudo—and their Porsche 911 GT3 won first place in the Alternative Fuels (AT) class.
In addition to the winning performance behind the wheel, the team raced with a “first” of its kind motor oil: a sustainable SAE 0W40 that was developed specifically for the 24-hour endurance race at Nuerburgring.
The 0W40 motor oil was made from sustainable base oils from PURAGLOBE, the team’s main sponsor. PURAGLOBE President and CEO Andreas Schueppel explained, “This is more than a sponsorship for us. It’s a way to develop our sustainable base oils—and test the performance of the motor oils we make from them—out of the lab and on the track. And working closely with the CARE FOR CLIMATE TEAM® helps us innovate more efficiently as well.”
Dr. Soenke Moehr, the head of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for PURAGLOBE explained, “We’ve been working on a sustainable, fully synthetic 0W40 for awhile now. We’re excited about how well it performed, especially since the team took first place.” Dr. Moehr added, “the 0W40 is also a first as well; it’s the first fully synthetic and truly sustainable 0W40 to be tested during the 24-hour race at Nuerburgring.”
Team leader Tom von Löwis added that in addition to winning the AT Class, “21st place is simply awesome. The fantastic overall result proves once again that sustainable technologies can deliver top performance even under extreme conditions.”
